To Be Prepared is Half the Victory Part 3
Eliza looked crestfallen when she saw the monochrome fairies, it was such a sad sight to start with but an instinct inside that she wasn’t used to was just making her skin shiver at how wrong wrong wrong this was.
She gently tried to catch one, to see if a physical interruption would cause a reaction when calling to them did not.
“W-wait… just rest for a moment will you… maybe?”
All the fairy did was struggle to break free, not loudly, or violently, but with a constant persistence that made Eliza fearful of hurting it, so she let it go and it went right back to collecting the skeleton flowers.
Eliza let her hands flop to her sides, defeated.
Voice of No Return – Trials
Trial of Echoing Steps
Eliza was carefully walking through the chamber tense and worried. She wasn’t sure what the mirrors would show and as if on cue she caught one that was a huge bipedal mostly blond wolf with a black streak starting from his head down it’s back. Exactly where Eliza’s dyed black hair would be. If she was the wolf… which she unfortunately was on occasion.
“That’s what I look like when I…?” Eliza gulped and kept walking. It was only a reflection.
But of course the reflection followed her from mirror, it was inevitable that it would reach out trying to grab her.
Eliza tried to step back but was hit with a wave of dizzyness and stumbled. With flight denied her training took over and shook a deafening gunshot echoed though the chamber as Eliza shot the reflection.
Then she yelped and held her hands over her ringing ears.
Trial of Whispering Winds
Eliza was pacing near the entrance of the trial rummaging through her bag.
“Well I still got all my stuff at least but… what was I doing here again?” She looked around frowning. “I’m sure I wasn’t alone originally but who was I with?”
She looked at the entrance to the trial she had clearly already failed once and squared her shoulders.
“I guess the only way to find out is to keep going forward… right?”
Trial of the Crystal Veil
Eliza was sure she looked stupid from the riverside. But she’d seen enough youtube videos to know that when walking on ice you should spread your weight out as much as possible. This crystal should work the same way right?
So after making sure no one was around to see, she shifted into her full wolf form which should weight less than she normally does. Then she started crawling along the crystal surface.
She was about half way when she heard voices behind her and whined. She swears they better not start laughing at her…
Trial of the Porcelain Heart
After crossing the river Eliza started looking for other trials that would be easier in this wolf form. And maybe it would be good for her to spend more time in this form where the wasn’t any fighting going on. When she found the trail of the porcelain heart she thought she found a good candidate.
True walking on all fours would mean she was moving more and would risk more cracks that way, but she was smaller, lower to the ground, and should have an easier to time with the narrow passageways and swinging blades… maybe.
Still it was worth a shot and so, hopefully people won’t be to confused when they see a porcelain wolf very carefully wandering around with them.
Trial of the Shifting Stones
Eliza paces back and forth at the start of this trial in her wolf form not sure what do to. She’s pretty sure she’s faster in this form, but what id she barely makes a jump and needed to use her hands to pull herself up? Maybe the half and half form?
Eliza lay down with a whine, last time she did used that form she saw Esme get hurt and lost herself, she didn’t want to risk that again. No, no she’d stick to this form with it’s extra speed and just hope that was good enough…. Or maybe she’ll wait for someone else to do this trial and watch them so she had a better idea of what skills she needed.
She picked her head up and looked around, hopefully someone would show up soon.
Trial of the Forgotten Names
Okay, Eliza definitely needed hands to read those scrolls, and thought she found a secluded spot between shelves to change back to human, only when she was stretching her arms out, glad to have them back she saw someone was watching.
“Uh… Don’t tell anyone… please?”
